(100 % chardonnay)
26 februari 2016 (hemma)
Betyg idag: 91(+)
Sannolikt bäst: 2019-2027
I have not had Les Chétillons before but we are going to kill the baby that is the 2009 in the name of science next month. Do you think it should be opened well ahead, e.g. in the morning of the tasting day in order to get even a glimpse of its potential or is it going to be a very unhedonistic excercise either way?
SvaraRaderaIf it is really in the name of science, you should definitely drink it over two days! Open the bottle and drink 30-50 % on day one, close it well and save the rest for day two! Either way, I suspect it will be very young today.
RaderaFeel free to post your observations here afterwards!
Well, it will be part of a Champagne tasting and it is going to be paired with 2004 Pierre Moncuit Cuvée Nicole Vieilles Vignes which - I have understood - is also 100 % Chétillons. Perhaps I will open it the previous day and pour just a little bit so that everyone (6 persons) still gets their glasses but the wine is given at least some chance to open up. I shall report afterwards :)
RaderaThat should be a good strategy. Yes, the Cuvée Nicole Moncuit from Pierre Moncuit is also made on grapes from Les Chétillons, but from a parcel with even older vines!
RaderaHowdy! Had our Champagne tasting yesterday and the 09 Chetillons was enjoyed as well. I had opened it a day before as suggested which proved to be the right thing. At the PnP the wine was certainly incredibly tense and tight with beautiful aromatics. The next day it was still tight at first but got better and better in the glass and also benefited from a higher temperature. I was amazed by its purity, volume and haunting smokiness. It is well worth the tariff and I would love to have some bottles in my wine fridge. Alas, it is now sold out at plus de bulles except for the magnum.
SvaraRaderaAlongside the Peters we had the Cuvée Nicole which unfortunately struggled a bit when compared. The Peters' purity and chiselled form made the Moncuit seem slightly too ripe and luscious. I am sure though that it is a fine wine in its own right.
Hi there! It sounds like you had a nice tasting. Thanks for the report! I am looking forward to drink both these wines sometime in the future!
